Americans are never at a shortage for options. If it is fast food that is desired, then there is a Hardees, Burger King, McDonalds, Taco Bell, Chic-fil-A, and now you have the idea. Need to fuel up your automobile, then Shell, Chevron, Citgo, or etc. is conveniently near by. Even Sam’s Clubs & Super Wal-Marts have gas pumps these days.
The choices are not fewer when it comes to choosing a church either. Which denomination will it be, Church of God, Church of Christ, Baptist (Southern, Independent, Landmark, or etc.), Presbyterian, Methodist, Catholic, Salvation Army, non denominational or one of many more? Then there is the choice of which local church within the chosen denomination you will choose.
America is a nation who blesses her citizens with many choices indeed, and American Christians must learn not to approach our walk with God in the consumer mind set. When the truth is being sought after, then there is only one correct choice. God knew that having choices would add zest to life, and He was gracious enough to allow us many choices. But God was also aware that no one could have a secure relationship with Him if we had to depend on subjective truth. That is why He revealed His objective standard of truth through the written word, the Bible, and confirmed it through the living word, Jesus Christ (John 1:1,14).
God poses the rhetorical question through the writings of Amos in
Chapter 3 and verse 3. Can two walk together, unless they are agreed?
Walking with God requires full agreement with and surrender to the truths revealed in His Word.
